Usine Theme

Colorful overlays

usine screener

The idea behind this theme was to get all that beautiful possibilities of semi-transparent layers overlaying nice pictures working cross-browser. Most of such effects are done using PNG images, which needs some hacks for IE/Win. Usine don't. Choose your image, your different colors and the amount of transparency and you have a wonderful site that simply works.

The variations

  • NEW: Custom Colors available for many parts of the layout (body, footer, border, navbar, content, ...)
  • 6 values for the transparency amount of the sections above
  • NEW: Greybox included for cool Web 2.0 effects
  • 6 different font families to choose from
  • 11 included background images + 7 custom slots = 18 different bg images
  • 5 font sizes for the header titles and the navbar items
  • Breadcrumb on/off
  • 4 Logo Positions: navbar, sidebar, both, none
  • Text Shadow for the title: on/off
  • 4 Sidebar/Navbar Positions: Sidebar Left + Navbar Right, Sidebar Right + Navbar Left, Sidebar Hide + Navbar Left, Sidebar Hide + Navbar Right
  • Automatic Image Resizing (as in my other themes)

Some features in detail

Transparent Layers

Possibly the coolest feature in the usine theme is you can add a transparency value to the different parts of the layout (sidebar, navbar, content). As it doesn't use transparent pngs, as used most, this technique works crossbrowser without any javascript hack.

Greybox included

greybox logo

Ever wanted to have a cool AJAX effect on your site but it was too difficult to make it work? With the OHM theme it is really easy as the greybox project is preinstalled! You probably already have seen the greybox in action. It is used widely on this site to show you the images in full screen mode. The greybox system is similar to the lightbox one, except you not only are able to open images in a translucent layer but whole websites. So you can show additional information to the user without opening a new window or redirecting him to another site - and this means: he will stay longer on your site!

As you view this content you already have seen how greybox works, as this whole page is displayed in a greybox layer. Other examples can be found on this site when choosing to view the online examples or even by adding a theme in the shopping cart.

If you want to find more information about greybox or like to see more examples, you can visit the project's homepage at http://www.orangoo.com/labs/GreyBox/

Font Families

In the corners theme you can choose between 6 different font families. 3 of them are sans-serif, 2 are serif fonts and 1 is a monotype font.

The UIA - Easily manage your background images

uia view

Included with the theme you will find a nice little utility to easily manage your own custom background images. Just choose the images you want to be displayed in the header and click on Place. The Usine Image Admin Utility will do the rest.

Automatic Image Resizing

This really cool feature is implemented in most modern browsers: When the browser window is resized the image in your content is also resized. So your visitors will not get too small or big images on their screen. They will fit perfectly no matter which screen size they have. And as all my updated versions of my themes you don't even need to code this by html. Just turn on or off this feature in the page inspector with only 1 click.
